Nursing Salary Survey Says...

I came across some information today that convinced me that the cost of continuing education for nurses does indeed pay for itself -- and then some!!

According to the Nursing2005 Journal, the average income for a BSN responding to their salary survey was $58,600, 7.3% higher than 2004 ($54,600) and 18% higher than 2003 ($49,600). Those with an MSN earned $10,300 more on average than the average RN respondent.

Now, compare that to the average salary of an LPN ($34,400).

Let's say this LPN decides to fork up $28,000 to advance to an RN degree online. By taking night classes, she maintains her current lifestyle and day job, dedicating somewhere around 10 hours a week for one year to earn the RN degree. She now qualifies for a salary increase of $24,000! She pays back her education investment in just a little over a year and can plan to pocket AND pockets an additional $8,000 in year two.

Now, look ahead five years as the new income (24K/year on top of what she was making as an LPN) compounds. She has earned an ADDITIONAL $120,000! That's new money my friend -- meaning a new house, new car and a vacation to Tahiti.

Most health related companies will pay for all or at least a large portion of continuinge education tuition costs, so you could, in theory see your salary increase by 59% with no financial investment at all!

If you are dedicated to your career as a nurse, how could you not at least consider investigating earning the next level of your nursing degree online. No classrooms involved, classwork and studying is on your own time and make more money in the end!

Here are some of the top accredited schools offering nursing degrees online:

University of Phoenix (RN to BSN, RN to MSN, Health Care Education, more...)
Kaplan University (Forensic Nursing, Legal Nurse Consulting, Nursing Bachelor's)
Jacksonville University (Nursing Bachelor's)
