As such, the state of New Jersey has instituted a Nursing Initiative to help provide resources to recruit and retain nurses while also providing quality education programs to increase the nursing education faculty, thereby increasing the number of nurses effectively trained to provide healthcare within the state.

New Jersey’s underserved citizens include low-income, urban populations in 28 areas of the state, including children, women and the elderly. In addition, many of the nursing schools in New Jersey offer specialized certificates or programs for school nurses, one of the many types of nurses affected directly by the nursing shortage that touches the lives of children daily.
