Nursing Schools in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is home to several exemplary nursing colleges and universities, outstanding hospitals and a legislative body that is helping to produce results within the health care workforce that help eliminate the national nursing shortage. These initiatives include the creation of the Pennsylvania Center for Health Careers, an organization that provides research and policies designed to increase the number of nurses within Pennsylvania through furthering education and promoting nurse retention programs.
The population in Pennsylvania contains 140 medically underserved areas that consist of low-income individuals in rural and urban areas as well as a migrant farm worker population and non-English speaking Hispanics. The need for nurses that specialize in rural and community health is high, as well as nurses that can speak Spanish and have experience working within urban, metropolitan areas like Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
