Registered Nurse Employment Facts

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that jobs in nursing will increase 26% through 2020, throughout the industry. Hospitals, physician offices and home health care placements are all expected to have an increased need for nurses, especially where in-patient procedures and treatments are performed. This
prediction is due to technological advances and preventative health measures, both of which will contribute to the demand for nurses. Because of these factors, the aging Baby Boomer generation will significantly add to the need for nurses as that generation continues to lead healthier lives that rely on technology and preventative health measures.

While a Registered Nurse may work in these facilities after obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Nursing, it is more common to see hospitals, clinics and doctor’s offices requiring a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. A BSN can also open up more specialized opportunities in nursing, allowing a nurse to define a career path and increase the overall salary and wages earned.
