Average Annual Earnings of Full-time Registered Nurses

Average Salary of Full-time Registered Nurses

According to the 2008 National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses, the average earnings for a full-time Registered Nurse were reported around $66,000 per year. These figures take into account the level of education a nurse has attained, the number of years a nurse has been employed, and the location of the nurse. The highest paid full-time nurses are Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), averaging $154,221 per year, while the lowest paid full-time nurses are Patient Educators, averaging $59,421 per year.

As nursing positions may vary throughout the employment setting (hospital, clinic, consultant, etc.), additional earnings data reports that the wages for a full-time staff nurse in a hospital average $63,809 per year, while the lowest average wages are reported by RNs working within schools.
